アセアン文化都市2021-2022 ー シェムリアップ

ASEAN City of Culture 2021-2022 ー Siem Reap

2020年10月22日、第9回目アセアン文化芸術相会議がオンラインで開催されました。その会議において、カンボジアのシェムリアップが2021年-2022年アセアン文化都市として選定されました。

シェムリアップは、前クメール王国の首都であり、UNESCO世界遺産に認定されているアンコール遺跡群がある、歴史と文化が豊かな都市として広く知られています。この度、シェムリアップがアセアン文化都市として選定されたことは、非常に喜ばしことです。

なお、2010年にアセアン文化都市企画が始まって以来、シェムリアップは6番目に選ばれたアセアン都市となります。会議では強い団結の象徴として、アセアン諸国から一つの都市を指名し、その都市の文化や発展を促進しています。過去に選定されたことがある都市は以下の通りです。

• セブ、フィリピン (2010-2011)
• シンガポール (2012-2013)
• フエ、ベトナム (2014-2015)
• バンダルスリブガワン、ブルネイ・ダルサラーム (2016-2017)
• ジョグジャカルタ、インドネシア (2018-2020)

この選定をきっかけにして、来年以降、コロナ禍で落ち込んでいるシェムリアップの観光ビジネスの復興に弾みがつくことを期待いたします。

On 22 September 2020, it was announced that Siem Reap city, Cambodia will be named as ASEAN City of Culture for 2021-2022, during the 9th AMCA (ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Culture and Arts) meeting via video conference. This is certainly a great news as we all know that Siem Reap is a city rich in history and culture, due to it being the former capital of the Khmer Empire and is home to Angkor, an UNESCO World Heritage Site.

For your info, Siem Reap city is the sixth ASEAN city being selected, since the ASEAN City of Culture initiative first started in 2010. In a bid to promote and strengthen ASEAN identity, an ASEAN city will be designated to showcase its cultural life and development for a period of two years. Past cities selected for ASEAN City of Culture include:

• Cebu, Philippines (2010-2011)
• Singapore (2012-2013)
• Hue, Vietnam (2014-2015)
• Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam (2016-2017)
• Yogyakarta, Indonesia (2018-2020)

We certainly do look forward and hope this appointment of ASEAN City of Culture can help revive the tourism business in Siem Reap next year, and once the pandemic subsides.
